Wallace Stevens (1879-1955)

Called a "grumpy Genius" and even characterizing himself as the "hermit of poetry," Wallace Stevens definitely did not fit the vision conjured up by his elegant and revolutionary poetic style. Taciturn and reclusive, the enigmatic Stevens spent his days as a Hartford insurance executive and his nights polishing the revolutiionary poetic style that made him one of the world's most highly-acclaimed versifiers.
