John Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913)

One of America's most prominent financiers and collectors, Morgan used substantial portions of his wealth in philanthropic endeavors and also accumulated a huge collection of art.

The J. Pierpont Morgan collection of French eighteenth century porcelain is one of the most prized segments of the Wadsworth Athenaeum's permanent collections.  Designed by George Keller, Morgan's monument is said to represent Morgan's vision of the Ark of the Covenant.
