Unless otherwise indicated, tours and events are held at Cedar Hill Cemetery and begin at the flagpole at the end of the entranceway drive. In most cases, tours and events are held rain or shine.
We ask all visitors to please obey all Cemetery rules and regulations as posted.

Hartford’s Rural Cemetery

Learn about Cedar Hill Cemetery's historic landscape as Rudy Favretti explains the components of the American rural cemetery movement and how Jacob Weidenmann's design concept for Cedar Hill interprets it. Cedar Hill is one of America's finest examples of a rural cemetery. Mr. Favretti is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture at UConn, and author of Jacob Weidenmann. Following his tour, Mr. Favretti 's book will be available for sale and signing. Tour Length: 1 hour
Bird Walk and Talk

Cedar Hill Cemetery is home to a variety of birds. Bring your binoculars and explore Cedar Hill’s world of birds with Roaring Brook Nature Center’s Jay Kaplan. Meet at the bridge just inside the entranceway.

They Called me Lizzy. . .from slavery to the White House
Saturday, June 7, 10 am
$5 members, $8 nonmembers
Elizabeth Keckly is known as Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker and author of Behind the Scenes, 30 years a slave and four years in the White House. Join us under a tent on Section 2 as the East Haddam Stage Company tells the story of Lizzy in this one-person show, which is full of twists and turns, bravery and resiliency. In the event of heavy rain, this will be rescheduled. Event Length: 1.5 hours

Cedar Hill Sunset Tour

During this tour, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about some of Cedar Hill’s most notable residents as the sun sets behind Cedar Mountain. This tour offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Cemetery at sunset. Tour Length: 1.5 hoursle each.
Mystery Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, August 16, 10 am
$10 per Scavenger Group of
2-4 people each.
Someone has stolen Ann Tracy Morgan’s beloved necklace. Can you find out who? Join us for this family-friendly scavenger hunt that will have you traversing the historic sections of Cedar Hill Cemetery as you find and follow clues to the thief. Choose your teams wisely as this is a race to the finish. Reservations are highly recommended. Event length: 2 hours.
Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation Jazz Concert

CT Ghosts and Mediumship 101
Saturday, Sept. 20, 10 am

Elaine Kuzmeskus, director of the New England School of Metaphysics and author of Connecticut Ghosts and Séance 101, is a nationally renowned spiritualist medium and has been certified by the National Association of Spiritualist Churches as a medium. Ms. Kuzmeskus will discuss her experiences of supernatural activity while doing research for her book Connecticut Ghosts. She will also demonstrate Mediumship and answer questions from the audience. Follow signs at Cemetery to designated location. Reservations are highly recommended. Event Length: 1.5 hours
Exceptional Women Tour
Friday, September 26, 6 pm
Members free, $5 nonmembers
Women in the 1800s and early 1900s paved the way for the rights and freedoms women have today. Learn about the lives and accomplishments of some of Cedar Hill’s notable women, including Isabella Beecher Hooker, Elizabeth Colt and Katharine Houghton Hepburn. Rebecca Scorso, former managing director at the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, will lead this evening tour. Tour Length: 1.5 hours
October 2008
Civil War Men and Monuments

Members free, $5 nonmembers
Cedar Hill Cemetery Association was established near the end of the Civil War in 1864. While Cedar Hill did not have its first burial until 1866 - after the Civil War was over, several Civil War soldiers are buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Join Civil War expert Mike McBride as he tells about Cedar Hill’s Civil War Men and Monuments during this tour. Tour length: 1.5 hours
Haunted History Lantern Tour
Friday, October 24, 7pm - 9pm

$5 members, $8 nonmembers
Meet some of Hartford’s 19th century notables as you tour Cedar Hill Cemetery by lantern light. This fun Halloween event promises to be “lively” and “spirited.” Bring a flashlight and a friend! Tickets will be on sale from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Tour groups of 30 people will depart every 15 minutes.
